Description: Sol strikes an imposing figure on most, standing at six feet tall with a muscular build. His brownish-red eyes are usually hidden behind long bangs, as well as parts of a red metal headband that he has strapped on. The words ‘ROCK YOU’ are etched into the metal. The only time Sol will ever remove this headband is when he needs to access the full potential of his Gear powers. His hair is otherwise spiked up, with one long section tied off that hangs to his mid-to-lower back.

His outfit consists of a red vest with a high collar and black trim that reaches and is strapped at his chest over a black, zip-up shirt that is considered form-fitting. He has two belts strapped to his left arm, both hands covered by black gloves with metal plating in both red and gold, the word ‘RIOT’ etched into the gold. He also wears black pants with several belts on it as well, two crossing his waist and two on each thigh. The two around his waist have a large buckle connecting them with the word ‘FREE’ etched onto it. His shoes are a pair of red boots with black accents.

Gear Form: There are several stages to Sol’s Gear form, depending on the situation and/or how much power he needs. The first sign that this is happening is when his eyes shift color to golden with cat-like slits for pupils. Second sign is that his fingernails extend into claws (how they end up turning back automatically we’ll never really know), then his canines elongate to resemble fangs. All of these signs can also happen with the activation of the Dragon Install, as well if his emotions get the better of him.

Once the limiter’s removed, however, then things get interesting. Not only do all these changes happen, but Sol also gains leathery wings and a tail. And he goes batshit.

Count the bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drum (Personality)

Sol’s up there in the list of characters that are pretty much badass. He’s crude, sarcastic, and loves to tease his opponents. When he talks to someone, he’s almost always rude, blunt and to the point. Some say it’s because of his American heritage, but the few people that still know him today (i.e. Axl Low) know that it’s just a front. In actuality, Sol is considered to be a combat genius, among other things. He also has compassion and actually cares about others, but decides to hide that for their sake. Being connected to someone like him is a death sentence in his eyes.

As expected with someone like him, he is not someone you want to mess with. Even with the laid-back attitude he has, if you cross him, you are ensuring your own death sentence. However, that doesn’t mean he will be serious from the get-go. Being what he is and how much knowledge he has gained over time, he will not go all-out until he knows if his opponent will actually be a challenge to him. Evidence of this can be shown in his fighting stance. He stands holding Fuuenken backwards, relaxed as his other hand is seen in his pocket.

In summary, for all his badassery, Sol Badguy really isn’t that bad of a guy. (*shot for the pun*)

Pay no mind to the rebel, pay no mind to the rebel (History)

(Spoilers for Sol’s Guilty Gear/X/XX Story modes)

Nobody really knows much about Sol’s past, he refuses to talk about it much. However, evidence in their intros shows that Axl Low and Sol knew each other from Axl’s original time period (21st Century), which tells us that Sol is well over 150 years old. Characters like Justice and That Man also refer to him as ‘Frederick’, which is Sol’s real name.

How he ended up like this is through the Gear Project, a scientific endeavor that would combine magic and science to create the ultimate bioweapon. Not only was Frederick one of the head scientists of the project, he was the prototype experiment. However, during his time as the head of the Project, he had taken the precaution that things might not turn out exactly how they wanted to and developed the Outrage, an eight-piece set of Anti-Gear weapons. Only three are known to us so far: Sol’s own Fuuenken, Ky Kiske’s Fuuraiken, and Anji Mito’s Zessen fans. He also developed the suppressor headband that he always wears.

After the Project was ‘complete’, however, the Gears started turning on the humans under the Commander Gear Justice, who was created shortly after the experiments on Frederick were complete. Using her powers as a Commander Gear, she led them on a violent rampage against humanity that would plunge them into a long and brutal war known as the Crusades.

During this time, Frederick disappeared and didn’t resurface again until about 2172 under the guise of “Sol Badguy”. Posing as a bounty hunter, he ended up joining the Knights of the Holy Order under the command of Kliff Undersn, who, ironically, Frederick had saved almost half a century earlier from Gears. Three years later, he confronted Justice and fought her. It was during this fight that his headband had come off, revealing the Gear mark branded on his forehead. However, Justice didn’t recognize that this was Frederick and tried to assert power over him as a Commander Gear. However, since he was the prototype, these measures didn’t work. The Order took advantage of Justice’s stunned state and sealed her away, ending the war. After this, Sol took one of the Order’s most sacred treasures, the Fuuenken sword, and fled, earning the enmity of Ky Kiske, who had taken over for Kliff at the age of 16. This rivalry between the two would be expressed throughout the series.

Five years later, after hearing information that someone was trying to reawaken Justice, Sol once again took up Fuuenken and fought his way through many opponents, including Ky and his old friend Axl Low, to reach Justice once again. As was the case in the earlier fight, his suppressor headband had come off, and this time Justice had recognized him as Frederick, but it was too late by that time. He had struck the finishing blow. As she lay there dying, Sol swore revenge against That Man, a mysterious figure that is connected to these events and someone who seems to know that Sol was Frederick.

A few months after defeating Justice, Sol heard rumor of another Commander Gear that was still alive. Eventually, he found out that this Gear, who was actually a half-Gear named Dizzy, was a pacifist and didn’t want to hurt anyone. In a display of mercy, he spared her life and continued on his journey in finding That Man.

A few months after that, he fought his way through many obstacles (including ANOTHER confrontation with Ky Kiske and one with That Man’s ~~slutty~~ minion I-no) and reached That Man. However, he seemed to effortlessly block all of Sol’s attacks, telling him that he would have to get stronger to fight for something that would have a greater impact than the Crusades.

Fuming, Sol then left for London. Even though he knew that Axl probably wouldn’t be there because of his ‘condition’, he still wanted to visit the city to recover for a while and lay low until a new lead came about.

Head down, go to sleep to the rhythm of the war drums (Combat Abilities)

Weapons: Sol’s weapon is Fuuenken (Fireseal), one of the eight pieces of the Outrage, which are also known as Jinki. This weapon has the ability to naturally increase the user’s abilities with fire magic despite its odd appearance.

Skills: Sol, being a Gear, has superhuman strength, speed and stamina. However, most of this power is suppressed with the headband that he wears. However, that doesn’t stop him from using many different techniques revolving around fire in order to fight. These moves include:

Bandit Revolver: Sol leaps into the air, hitting the opponent with his knee, and spins around to deliver an axe kick. *Same as normal, except that his leg is completely encased in flames while he does this.

Bandit Bringer: Sol leaps into the air and comes crashing down on the target with a flaming fist.

Riot Stamp: One of my personal favorites. Sol leaps backwards, kicks off, then flies forward to deliver a FLAMING BOOT TO THE HEAD.

Gun Flame: The standard projectile move. Sol slams Fuuenken into the ground, creating a mini-pillar of flame that travels toward the target. *Same action, different reaction. After slamming Fuuenken into the ground, Sol creates a decently large pillar of flame, stationary, but powerful.

Grand Viper: Sol charges into the target in a blaze of flame, then uses a flaming uppercut to knock the target into the clouds while he stays on the ground. (Accent Core version)

Volcanic Viper: Sol knocks the opponent into the air with a flaming uppercut, following them while he does so. *Same properties, just carries for a longer distance.

Tyrant Rave version β: Sol delivers a flaming punch from his free hand, then another, more devastating blow with the one gripping Fuuenken.

Dragon Install: Sol temporarily unseals part of his Gear powers, making him stronger and faster than normal. Some of his moves have their properties changed as well in this mode. However, it lasts for an extremely short amount of time and leaves him drained after use.

Napalm Death: This move is known as Sol’s “Instant Kill” move for a reason. Sol crouches down, then leaps into the air with several pillars of flame surrounding him, creating an enormous explosion as he does so.

*This is the move when performed after using Dragon Install.

Now, considering the fact that he not only was one of the main scientists leading the Gear Project, but was also smart enough to develop weapons in case something went wrong as well as a suppression device for himself, it’s safe to say that Sol is a smart guy. Not only on the subject of science and Gears, but also in magic and combat. He won’t hesitate to use his environment to his advantage and is an adaptable fighter.
